Find out More About a Non Surgical Facelift

Non Surgical Cheek enhancements

Sunken cheeks can be more easily reshaped than you might think. Today, it won’t take a surgical implant to get them looking the way you want them to. Instead, non-surgical treatments can greatly improve the appearance of your face in half the time, without breaking the bank.

How does a non-surgical cheek enhancement work?

Collagen and elastin, both found in the dermal layer of your skin, is abundant when we are young. However, as we begin to age, the production of both these proteins slows down, leading to a slackening of the skin and the development of wrinkles and fine lines, especially around the eyes, the forehead and the jowls of the cheeks.

Sunken cheeks are a prime example of what happens when collagen production in particular begins to wane. Skin that was once held high and firm by bountiful collagen begins to feel gravity’s pull, leading to the look of sunken cheeks. The loss of elastin in the skin also means that it has less bounce and more sag.

Non-surgical cheek enhancements work by injecting either fat from another part of your body or dermal fillers, plumping up the targeted area and improving the look of the skin.

What is involved with a non surgical cheek enhancement

Firstly, you should consult with a fully trained and experienced cosmetic practitioner, and ask to see before and after shots of their previous work. They will answer any questions you may have, and explain the entire process before you begin.

Usually, the area will be numbed before the dermal filler is injected, and tests for sensitivity or allergic reactions will also be done. The dermal filler is then injected under the skin in precise locations.

Typically, dermal filler types R and P, which are made from a natural substance that is found naturally within the skin, are used for cheek enhancements and other procedures requiring the treatment of deep lines and facial shaping. More recently, the manufacturer of these fillers, Allegan, released a Type V, which is thicker than Types R and P, and perfectly suited to larger areas, such as the cheeks or chin. These fillers will typically last anywhere from 4 to 24 months, depending on the area that is to be treated.

The advantage to undergoing a non-surgical cheek enhancement is not only the speedy recovery, but also the control the practitioner has over the filler. The substance, hyaluronidase, can very quickly reverse filler types R and P, should any undesired effects or lumps develop.

Permanent dermal fillers are generally not recommended, as there is a higher risk of complications from infections of lumps with these.
